Backyard Party & Birthday Taco Catering FAQs
Backyard parties and family celebrations can be simple to cater when the service style matches the space. Residential events often raise practical questions about gates, driveways, pools, grass, children, parking and how much room the taco cart needs.
These FAQs cover the details hosts should consider before choosing on-site taco catering or delivery for a birthday, baby shower, anniversary, graduation or backyard gathering.
Frequently Asked Questions About Backyard & Family Event Taco Catering
What’s the difference between On-Site, Delivery, and Pickup?
On-Site Catering: Our team comes to your event with the taco cart, prepares and serves the tacos, sets up the taco bar, buffet tables with black linens, chafing equipment, and handles setup and breakdown of our food-service area.
Delivery: We prepare your food, deliver it to your event location, and set up the taco bar. Our team does not stay to serve.
Pickup: We prepare everything for your order and you pick it up from our Temecula location. There is no delivery fee.
How much room does the taco cart need?
It depends on your guest count and the cart selected for your event. Our taco carts range from approximately 4 feet to 12 feet long, allowing us to match the equipment to the size of the event and available space.
What happens if we discover stairs, a locked gate, or difficult access that I forgot to mention?
Our FAQs and Terms & Conditions specify that our team and equipment cannot be required to navigate more than three steps.
If your event has stairs or difficult access, please let us know in advance. We may ask you to email us photos or a video showing the entire route from where our team will park to where you would like the taco cart set up. After reviewing it, we may be able to approve the requested setup.
It is the host’s responsibility to make sure gates are unlocked and that our team has clear access when we arrive.
If an access route or requested setup location is not safe for our team or equipment, our lead team member will determine the safest suitable location for the taco cart.
Can you set up on dirt, grass, or gravel, or do you need a hard surface?
We can set up on dirt, grass, gravel, or hard surfaces. We do need to avoid deep gravel and strongly prefer a level surface without a significant slope.
Can you set up near a swimming pool?
Yes, depending on the available space and safe placement of the taco cart. Our team will determine an appropriate setup location at the event.
Do children need to be kept away from the taco cart?
Children may stand nearby with adult supervision, but they should not touch the taco cart or cooking equipment.
How much parking space does your catering team need?
Depending on the size of your event, please plan on providing at least one parking space large enough for a full-size van, as close to the setup area as reasonably possible.
The space should also remain accessible and not be blocked in by guests who arrive after our team, since we may need access to the vehicle during service and when loading out.
Should we reserve a parking or unloading space for your vehicle?
Yes. We recommend reserving a parking or unloading space close to the setup area for our catering vehicle.
Ideally, that space should remain accessible and not be blocked in by guests or other vehicles after our team arrives.
How many tacos per person?
We plan for approximately 5 tacos per guest.
Can you help me estimate how much food to order for heavy eaters?
Every group is different, so it’s difficult to accurately predict how much more one group may eat than another.
If you’re concerned about larger appetites, you can choose our All-You-Can-Eat option when building your quote at https://quote.lalatacos.com.
Can I order extra food as a backup without increasing the official guest count?
Yes. You can add extra food to your order without changing the official guest count. This can be a good option if you’d like additional food available as a backup or for larger appetites.
Can I order appetizers for fewer guests than my dinner count?
Yes. Appetizers can be ordered for a smaller number of guests than your dinner count, with a minimum of 10 guests.
Can I add churros?
Yes. Churros are optional. If you want them, you can add them to your order.
What happens if it rains on the day of my outdoor event?
Rain does not automatically cancel your event. Our team will work with you to determine the best setup, including whether tents or other adjustments are needed.
LaLa Tacos also has specialized propane-free taco carts that can operate indoors at venues where traditional propane carts cannot be used. If the weather requires moving service indoors, we can review the venue requirements and determine the best available option.
Our goal is to work with you and keep your event running whenever conditions allow us to do so safely.
